how it all started…..
When speaking to clients, I get asked all the time “Were you always an organized person? Is your home super organized? Do you have systems in your own home?”
The Answer? Mainly yes :) I’m a wife, mom to 3 kids in college (I’m a complete empty nester now) so I’ve lived the chaos of the toddler years, dealt with pre-teen & teenage messes, the hectic lifestyle of kids in travel sports & getting them prepared to go off to college & do all the things on their own, knowing that we taught them the skills to survive (at least survive dorm life & juggling class schedules).
With the kids all away, I’ve had time to reflect on me. Self care is a must especially as a mom & business owner! Now back to the original question - Was I always an organized person? I had to laugh when I found this throwback picture of myself - I was around 11/12 years old. (sorry for the grainy pic - it was the 80’s) Here I am, my room is tidy, my desk has a few organizers on it, that turtleneck/vest combo (funny that these styles are coming back)…..but the one thing that stands out? I’ll wait a minute for you to figure out……
I mean, come on - look at the doll organization!! No toy boxes or bins or containers, no piles on the floor……just all different dolls hung on the wall. You may say, wow, this is very organized, I agree, it is. But what really makes me laugh is that what you can’t see in the pic (besides the iconic Michael Jackson poster hanging in front of me) is the manner the dolls are hung. Get ready for it…….they are all hung by strings around their necks. Like, I’m literally hanging all of my dolls by their necks. Not sure if this is a glimpse into the future of the pro organizing career or a glimpse into my love of true crime shows :/
I’ve had many different types of jobs in my life. I’d like to think that each one of those has taught me the skills to get to where I am now. Whether it’s creating systems in the back end of my organizing business to helping a client space plan or set up their home binders to help them keep track of their lives, I’m happy to share the knowledge I’ve learned over the years to help get the desired results or solve the problem areas in each home.
